The Horse Pull

We saw 10 teams of draft horses doing what they were born and bred to do. Percherons, Belgians, even a gorgeous team of a very old English breed called Suffolks. The weight on the sled started at 2500 pounds. Each team had two tries to pull the weight 20 feet. Each time the weight was raised by 1000 pounds until the teams had difficulty pulling the 20 feet. Then it was raised in 500 pound increments. The winning team pulled 8500 pounds the full 20 feet. There was a good crowd on a hot, humid day and I was happy to see people interested in this old time event!
